Hon. Zainab Gimba

On Thursday, the House Representatives called upon security agencies to undertake efforts to rescue approximately 300 women who were abducted in Borno state last week.

According to several news networks, a group of women was apprehended by individuals believed to be Boko Haram Jihadists while they were gathering firewood in the Gamboru Ngala forest.

During a session in the House on Thursday, Hon. Zainab Gimba, who represents the Bama/Ngala/Kalabalge Federal Constituency of Borno State, expressed concern over the recent abduction, comparing it to the distressing incident in Chibok where school girls were abducted in April 2014.

In her words, “I want to bring to the notice of the House that about 300 women were abducted while fetching firewoods for domestic and commercial purposes in my constituency.

“I am calling on security agencies to as a matter of urgency, see to the rescue of these women who went in search of their daily bread.

“The House note that this is the second biggest number of abduction after the Chibok girls abduction that took place in 2014 even though, some of those girls are still in captivity.”

During the plenary session, Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker who was presiding, expressed his sorrow over the incident and urged security agents to intensify their efforts in locating the kidnapped women.

He remarked, “We, as a House are pained that the families of the abducted persons are going through what they are going through at the moment

“In the spirit of the International Women Day Celebration tomorrow (Friday), we pray that these women and those still in captivity be freed from their abductors.

“There is no better way to celebrate w
Women Day without calling for the protection and release of these women.

After the House passed the resolution, the motion was directed to the Committee on Defence and the National Emergency Management Agency.
